News

This year blooms into new opportunities for me thanks to The Arts Council of metropolitan Kansas City, ArtsInc and Charlotte Street Foundation along with The Artist Coalition with the help of inspirational and educational workshops this past year, I am creating lots of new artwork this summer.

Currently, I'm exhibiting in the H&R Block Artspace in their 2012 Flatfile exhibit, June 2nd - September 29th. In this exhibit I will be revealing rarely seen works on paper.

New ceramic sculptures can be viewed at the Blue Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri and the JRB Gallery at the Elms in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

On the horizon, I will be attending the 2013 NECEA ceramic convention in Houston Texas. I'm looking forward to hanging out and meeting lots of new friends.

My next exhibit, "Blooming Memories and Fading Dreams," is scheduled to open April 5, 2013 at the JRB Gallery, just in time for the Festival of the Arts.

About My Work

I am a great storyteller. My stories are down right funny and some times very sad. I communicate by using my hands and translating these stories into clay. My artwork focuses on the concepts of communication and miscommunications. I build female figures, birds, and fish by hand in porcelain clay as a response to the joys, frustrations, and desires I experience when dealing with humanity. Hand building allows a personal connection with my materials and my forms; that intimacy is imperative when processing emotions. My work, especially my animals, helps me bring a humorous light to the serious matters in my life.

I use animal imagery, such as Java sparrow finches and koi fish, in conjunction with the figures in order to add more meaning to the works. I have a personal connection to the birds since I live with a pair of Java sparrow finches in my home. To me, my birds are symbols of humanity, facets of myself or of others. They represent different voices of the world, either cheerleaders or naysayers.
